11-Year-Old Girl Dominates Boys’ Football League
Argyle, Texas – April 8, 2024 (USANews.com) – Penny Smiley, an 11-year-old girl, has taken the boys’ football league by storm with her impressive performance on the field. Playing as the starting running back for the Seahawks i9 5th grade football team, Penny ran for an outstanding 719 yards and scored 10 touchdowns over the course of 7 games in the Fall of 2023.
Despite being one of the only girl players in the entire league, Penny (a 5th grader at Coppell Classic Academy in Coppell Texas) has proven herself to be a force to be reckoned with. Her exceptional skills have not gone unnoticed, as she has already received an invitation to attend a flag football camp hosted by the Big 12 conference.
Penny’s talent runs in the family, as her father was a 3-star high school athlete who earned a scholarship to play football at San Diego State. With her father as her head coach and her brother Troy as the team’s starting quarterback, Penny has found a supportive and competitive environment to thrive in.
In the championship game, Penny showcased her abilities by running for 168 yards and scoring 2 touchdowns, leading her team to victory. Her hard work in practice and passion for the game have set her apart as a standout player in the league.
